membership information

The staff and creative team of H.I.P.NOTIK Productions believes no life is beyond the reach of God’s power, and we envision a future in which countless lives in prison institutions across the state of Texas are redeemed, restored, and reconciled through the powerful combination of the performing arts and the love and truth of Jesus Christ. All members of the H.I.P.NOTIK productions family are expected to abide by the following requirements:

  1. Each member MUST possess a fervent, energetic and anointed desire to use their talents to spread the joy and love of the Lord Jesus Christ through praise and worship.

  2. Each member MUST attend the one-day Texas Department of Criminal Justice Chaplaincy Training Class, time and day to be announced

  3. Each member MUST read and sign the membership agreement of the rules and regulations of the company and the “DO’S AND DON’T’S For Texas Prison Ministry Volunteers”

  4. A $50 donation is necessary for the member’s “Tour Fatigues”, a performance costume specifically fitted for you and will be yours to keep after the tour.

The 2016 H.I.P.NOTIK PRODUCTIONS “Set Me Free” summer tour plans to take place starting mid-June and will conclude in mid-August, featuring high energy, spiritually powered performances for thousands of eager, captivated male and female inmates at over ten prison facilities within the Houston, Huntsville and Beaumont tri-city area. Rehearsals will begin in late February (weekends only) and lead into the starting of the tour in June.

Dancers, singers, actors and those experienced in indoor pageantry (color guard) will make up the membership of this year’s performance roster:

DANCERS

Psalm 149:3 - Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp!!

Dancers will be responsible for retaining a large amount of intermediate/advanced level of choreography of various styles, primarily hip-hop, as well as jazz, modern and lyrical, while performing and executing at a high, professional level. Formal dance training is NOT required, but recommended. Dancers will need to be able to learn and memorize a minimum of four routines in a small amount of time and must commit to the necessary use of theatrics and props throughout the production. The breakdown of the dance number repertoire is as follows:

*          I Am Not Forgotten: hip-hop, stand-battle, Greek-style steppin’, minimal lyrical

*          We Worship You: hip-hop

*          Busyness/For Every Good Deed: jazz, lyrical, mime

*          Love Always, Me: modern/contemporary, lyrical – very emotional piece!

*          Set Me Free: hip-hop, jazz

If you are trained in mime, gymnastics/acrobatics, break-dancing, stepping, crumpin’ and other forms of artistic movement, you are encouraged to make the creative team aware of your abilities, as solo efforts and additional motivation for choreography/design are welcomed and will definitely be used in the production! But know that all H.I.P.NOTIK dancers must be able to conform to each dance style/routine.

SINGERS AND ACTORS

Psalm 113:3 – From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same

The Lord’s name is to be praised!!

Singers and actors will have dual responsibilities for this year’s tour, as vocalists and theatrical “messengers” in the production. The following applies to each performer:

*          Must have a clear, strong and powerful speaking voice

*          Must be able to memorize, retain and deliver inspirational messages effectively

*          Will perform one song as a group (Lord You Are Good (We Worship You))

*          Will have one solo song and one to two motivational monologue(s)

*          Will deliver one to two scripted prayer(s) throughout the production.

In addition to their solo efforts, the singers/actors will also perform in all company pieces, as leaders in a vocal number or as cameo/featured theatrical characters. These performers’ abilities to be truly versatile will be a detriment not only do their blessed talents, but to the level of integrity and determination of H.I.P.NOTIK to deliver a truly anointed message to the men and women of the TDCJ. The songs and monologues/prayers, all a part of the audition process, will be decided for each singer/actor by the creative staff. To those singers/actors who would like to dance in the major numbers, please make the creative staff aware of your abilities and desires to do so! The more, definitely the merrier!

AUXILIARY SQUAD (COLOR GUARD)

Exodus 39:1-5 - From the blue and purple and scarlet yarns they made finely woven garments, for ministering in the Holy Place…

The largest bulk of the storytelling and imagery responsibilities for the H.I.P.NOTIK tour will be placed on the members of the auxiliary squad. These performers must be able to learn and retain an extensive amount of intermediate/advanced level of choreography involving traditional (brightly colored silks and wooden rifles) and non-traditional (umbrellas, wooden canes, aluminum rods, etc.) auxiliary equipment or props, in an effort to add a new element of excitement, color and artistic development to the program. In addition to specific auxiliary featured pieces, members of the auxiliary team will also perform in the full company pieces as well as the other dance numbers, as most seasoned auxiliary performers are well trained in many forms of movement. The main auxiliary repertoire is as follows:

* I Am Not Forgotten – a segment of the piece will feature choreography with

                                         wooden poles/broom sticks

* Busyness/For Every Good Deed – auxiliary members will execute tosses and

                                         choreography with standard sized umbrellas

* Them Seven Deadlies – a “BLAST!” motivated piece using flags and wooden rifles- –                                       advanced skills necessary for this piece!

* Set Me Free – the bar of prison cells are disassembled and used as dancing props,

similar to the usage in “I Am Not Forgotten”

Don't know what color guard is? A little apprehensive of its use and effectiveness in

prison ministry? Well, my friend...check out the video below. The color, the artistry,

the message. We couldn't have found a better example to share with you!

                                         Enjoy "Preaching To The Choir"!!!
